THE talented fellows at the Salamander Men’s Shed have put together their most recent creations, and now we need the public to help fill them.

The volunteers at the Men’s Shed have manufactured pet food donation bins for the charitable people at Dog Rescue Newcastle.

The bins are made from recycled pallets and engineered by the Men’s Shed volunteers using hinges and screws donated by the community-minded staff and management at Medowie Hardware.

Coles Medowie has had a donation bin for some time, but now there are also bins at Medowie Woolworths and Medowie Pet Shed.

Donations of all pet food, dry or tinned, is appreciated, and there is a number listed on the bins should anyone decide to donate something that is frozen or too large to fit in the bins.

Dog Rescue Volunteers are more than happy to come and collect.

Featured on the bins are photographs of current dogs that are residing in the care of Port Stephens rescue volunteers.

Dog Rescue Volunteer carer, Jodi Deamer, told News Of The Area, “These bins are such a fantastic creation, we are so grateful for the Men’s Shed in helping us to roll these bins out across Medowie and Port Stephens.”

“Any donations will be accepted with open arms.”

“We rely on the wonderful generosity of the community to keep doing the important work we do,” she said.

At Woolworths Medowie, there is also a small plastic bin for donations to Port Stephens Cat Rescue, and the Pet Shed has a collection point also for Medowie’s own KITTY Rescue Project.

Winter is setting in, so let’s band together as a community and make sure these carers have a bit of extra help to care for animals in need.

Next time you do your weekly shop, think about throwing in a can or bag of pet food, and drop it off on your way out of the store.
