Cultural and Civic Space Gives the Community a Rooftop Oasis

COFFS Harbour Mayor Councillor Denise Knight said that Council have designed a rooftop oasis at the proposed Cultural and Civic Space which will allow the whole community to enjoy our beautiful natural Coffs environment.

“Opening onto the rooftop terrace will be a brand new community space designed for community meetings, functions, conferences, events and Council meetings.

“It’s what we are calling multipurpose,” she said.

“The doors of the multipurpose room will open onto the rooftop garden with community members being able to spill out to enjoy the view.

“Once every two weeks, the room will be transformed for Thursday night Council meetings.

“Unlike the existing Council Chamber, which usually sits unused in between meetings, this room will be mostly a community event space,” added Cr Knight.

Matthew Blair, Lead Architect for the Cultural and Civic Space explained “we want all the spaces in the building to work as hard as possible, with most having more than one use.

“As the architects we don’t believe in spaces sitting idle – we want them to be used and activated.

“We believe the diverse range of services provided within the building will ensure that constant sense of activity and vitality.”

Council say the rooftop area and multipurpose room have been designed to be ideal for a range of daytime and evening community events.

The space will have state of the art including digital connections, with Wi-Fi and audio-video technology – perfect for workshops, city talks, committee meetings, conferences and seminars.

There is a kitchen and bar facility for functions opening both into the multipurpose room and out onto the roof.

The capacity will fit up to 200 people depending on the kind of event being hosted.
