Croquet A Game For All Ages Myall Coast Sport Sport by News Of The Area - Modern Media - August 30, 2022 Members of the Myall Park Croquet Club with Frank Ryan celebrating his 92nd birthday at croquet. NOT many of us get to celebrate our 92nd birthday by playing sport but that is just what Frank Ryan, a member of the Myall Park Croquet Club, did last month. Along with celebrating Frank’s birthday the club recently held its AGM, with 22 members forming a quorum. The majority of the committee were re-elected for 2022-23. Tony Jones told News Of The Area, “Tim Barker accepted his third term as president and Frank Ryan joined the committee as Vice President. “Pat Rowe and Michael Bone agreed to continue as secretary and treasurer.” Other positions were filled by Peter Smith, Michele Weir, Suzanne Fletcher, Mahlah Murphy, Penny Garrett and Tony Jones. “All members expressed their appreciation for all those volunteers offering their time for the club.” The annual club championship games have also begun with Club Captain Peter Smith organising and refereeing. Club newcomer Tim Fenton won the New Players category of the championships. Pat Rowe and Tim Barker won the Doubles with Frank Ryan and Tony Jones runners up. Tony Jones won the singles with Ian Lisle runner up. The Myall Park Open Handicap championship is still to be played over the weekend of September 10 and 11 and all members are encouraged to enter this fun time. Croquet is a game of fun, skill and strategy that can be enjoyed at most stages of life. Coming up on the club’s calendar is a Fun Day with the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Probus Club on Monday 19 September. The Hawks Nest and District Probus Club have also been invited to come along and show their skills on 17 October. Sadly, the croquet club has again been targeted by vandals, with lattice destroyed on a Sun Shelter and pavers removed from pathways. Tony hopes that repairs can be made and that this type of behaviour ceases to negatively impact the players. You too can get involved in this fun club by contacting 0406261693 for more information.
