Midcoast Council, Coastal Management Co-Ordinator Andrew Staniland said, “Council has reviewed trucking routes and will be utilising the Winda Woppa sand stockpile for this trucking campaign.”

The Office of Environment and Heritage has granted $59,337 for the operation and Council says it will match those funds dollar for dollar.

The funding will permit the movement of 10,000 cubic metres of sand.

Next week’s trucking campaign will move half of that amount.

“The aim is to provide a buffer and ensure that if another weather event is experienced that the buffer can be replaced,” Mr Staniland said.

The operation is expected to take three to four days.

“The works will focus, in the first instance, on the ‘pinch point’ and then be extended,” Winda Woppa Association President Ken Garrard said.

MidCoast Council has finally appointed a contractor to construct a sand transfer system.

While Council has not named the contractor, MidCoast says the contractor is focusing on finalising the design for the machinery and a project manager has also been appointed.

So far this year, Jimmy’s Beach has suffered two major erosion events, one back in January, the other two weeks ago.

Council is hopeful work will begin on building the pump station in late August.
