COFFS Harbour City Council’s Disability Inclusion and Access Advisory Committee is calling for new members.

Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2017 – 2021 (DIAP) plays a vital role in ensuring access and inclusion are fundamental considerations in the creation of liveable communities, supports access to meaningful employment, provides information and services, and promotes positive community attitudes and behaviour.

Some examples of Council outcomes achieved under the Plan across built environments, systems and processes, and employment include partnering with Sport NSW to provide opportunities for inclusive sport including an annual Inclusion Sports Day held at Sportz Central, improvements to Council’s website to increase accessibility with the inclusion of ‘Readspeak’ technology, and all abilities playgrounds at Pearce Drive and West Coffs Regional Playground, designed on the NSW Government ‘Everyone Can Play’ Guidelines.

The Disability Inclusion and Access Advisory Committee will work collaboratively with Council in the development and implementation of strategies which aim to ensure that the local government area is an accessible community for all people, now and into the future.
