Coffs Harbour City councillors unanimously agreed on the proposed site for the new complex at Council’s recent ordinary meeting on Thursday, 10 September.

Council was looking at housing the new sporting facility at either Southern Cross University or the Coffs Coast Sport and Leisure Park.

The facility is proposed to contain a main sports hall including three full size indoor sports courts suitable for netball, basketball and retractable seating to facilitate show piece games and events, and a regional sport hall will include three full size indoor sports courts to facilitate competition netball, basketball, volleyball, futsal, table tennis, badminton and mass participation events.

There will also be a multipurpose cricket hub for indoor cricket training, table tennis and other activities including functions, exhibitions, indoor training for other football codes, and school holiday activities.

The facility will also accommodate a cafe/lounge area and amenities.

A Council report on the proposed centre presented to councillors at the recent Council meeting stated ‘the proposed Regional Indoor Sports Centre will be of significant benefit to visiting national and state events, as well as to local sports teams and competitions who will have increased access to these facilities’.

Council is currently preparing a business case for the proposed centre, as part of the Coffs Coast Regional Sports Hub project, funded by the NSW Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Fund ($10m).

Council will now continue preparing the business case for the selected site.
