Coolongolook Grants for community projects – successfull! Bulahdelah, Wootton, Nerong FEATURED by News Of The Area - Modern Media - July 8, 2016July 8, 2016 Cedar Park on the Coolongolook River will receive new picnic tables thanks to the funding and the hard work of the Coolongolook/Wootton Action Group. MIDCOAST Council has provided $32,000 in grants for community projects under the Community Grants program of the former Great Lakes Council. The grants were distributed to 25 community groups for a range of projects. Community Development Coordinator LyndieHepple said, “Council received 41 high-quality applications making assessment a difficult task for the Grants Committee.” “The successful projects will benefit the community in a number of ways,” she said. Ms Hepple said that the projects range from artistic projects to minor infrastructure and support for vulnerable people in the community in form of food banks and assistance with mental health projects. Under the Community Grants program, non-profit groups and organisations were encouraged to apply for up to $2,000 per project, with preference given to projects which build the capacity of the community rather than meeting ongoing operational costs and which improved the quality of life for the community. The Grants Committee met to consider the applications shortly before the merger of Taree, Gloucester and Great Lakes Councils, and the recommendations were approved by Administrator John Turner at the first meeting of the new MidCoast Council on 25 May.
