Community Recovery Events get funding boost from Moving Forward grants

InspireU Film and Digital Storytelling project comes to life.

NAMBUCCA Valley Council has announced the successful applicants under its “Moving Forward” Community Grants Program, funded by the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund (BCRRF).

“A wide range of applications were received, and Council is confident these community recovery events will lift our spirits and see the Nambucca Valley dancing, riding, discussing, connecting and more into 2022,” said Mayor, Cr Rhonda Hoban OAM.

“After drought, fire, Covid and flood our community event line-up will help boost the local economy and bring us together, stronger for the future.”

One of the recipients of the grant, Uniting – Children, Youth and Families based in Nambucca Heads, is using the funds to bring the InspireU Film and Digital Storytelling project to life.

Project leaders, Cass Wilson and Molly Langley, have heard many reasons over the last two years as to why our young people of Nambucca may not be reaching their full potential and thriving.

Cass told News Of The Area, “One strong theme that emerged from community conversations is that our young people want to hear and see more local success stories from those who faced the same barriers and hardships but pushed through to have great success.

“They wanted to have higher hopes and dreams, and be shown that anything is possible, even if you grew up right here in the valley.”

This inspired Cass and Molly to start co-designing with young people, and those important to them, a film and series featuring ten local youths who could share their stories of resilience and strength.

The film will be shown later this year but will become an important resource for years to come, say the organisers.
