The Strategic Planning team will host a workshop on Wednesday 17 October at the Baptist Church in Tea Gardens aimed at exploring the region’s residential zones and how they may be applied to cater for our future generations.

“We currently have different residential zones being used across the three former regions, so now is the time for us to review our planning rules and make them consistent across the MidCoast”, Roger Busby, from Strategic Planning said.

“The housing strategy is one of a number of important projects rolling out over the coming months that will help us develop a robust, contemporary and consistent planning framework.”

The Tea Gardens meeting is being held between 11am and 1pm.

Registrations are required by Friday 12 October, and can be made online at www.midcoast.nsw.gov.au/housing or by phoning 6591 7222.

The team at MidCoast Assist is also inviting people who have some time to spare and an interest in helping older members of our community, to drop in and chat with them over a cuppa about volunteering opportunities with Ageing Services.

Vikki Richards and Alan Twemlow have eight years of experience between them volunteering with MidCoast Assist.

They each accompany older MidCoast residents on social activities and outings and Alan is a driver, transporting clients to activities and home again.

They both say the personal rewards of volunteering are immense.

“If you volunteer and keep yourself active, you’re better yourself,”

“There is a warm inner glow of satisfaction each time, you’ve helped out and made a difference for someone that day.”

Vikki added “Absolutely. If you’re retired and you can spare some time, I know I feel better.”

“I don’t have to do this, I want to do it”.

The MidCoast Assist team will be at the Tea Gardens Library on Wednesday 17 October from 10.30am.

If you can’t make this session, you can call the MidCoast Assist team on 1300 65 88 30 or visit the website at www.midcoastassist.com.au/volunteering.
