A Community Art Space has been created on site at the Port Stephens Church of Christ, as a collaborative project between the Church, the Salt Ash Community Wellbeing Program, Salamander Men’s Shed and Port Stephens Council.

“The Community Art Space is a great place to leave your troubles behind and escape for a while, finding yourself amongst like minded people enjoying a coffee while sharing a laugh with new friends,” resident Tina Rebellato told News Of The Area.

“Finding out you can actually paint was such a awesome bonus considering I’ve never picked up a paint brush.”

Julie Bailey from the Community Wellbeing Program told News Of The Area, “Seeing our community come together like this has been amazing they are not only making new connections with community, they are rediscovering all the great reasons why they chose to move here in the first place.”

“It has been are really enjoyable experience and we hope that all our Friends and neighbours will take the time to pop in and see what we’ve been up to.”

The community art program is part of the community wellbeing Program, Community Helping Community Inc that started in the wake of the Red zone struggles, when residents noticed the stress levels of friends and neighbours rising as the uncertainty of the Red Zone grew.

Art is therapeutic, and the program is inclusive and open to all ages and abilities.

The Community Art is on display this Saturday 23 June from 10am-1pm.
