TOMAREE Bridge Club recently hosted a Bridge Congress for approximate 150 people from bridge clubs throughout Port Stephens, the Hunter and Central Coast.

The game of bridge is mentally stimulating and fun, using strategy and teamsmanship.

Members and visitors competed in a Swiss Pairs competition on the Saturday followed by a teams event on the Sunday.

Over the two days the players competed fiercely but still found time to socialise between rounds and enjoy the abundance of home cooking supplied by the host club.

Nelson Bay’s local players had some success in the congress with the pairs event being won by Trish Grigson and Kevin Farrell.

The best local pair were Bev Cleary and Sandra Dean who finished eleventh with Lynette Fitzhenry and Kerry Wright finishing fourteenth.

In the Sunday teams event the highest placed local team finishing seventh were Carol Seymour, Jim Thatcher, Evon Williams and Margaret Sylow.

Chris Ledingham of the Tomaree Bridge Club told News Of The Area, “Anyone wishing to learn to play bridge or wanting to get into contact with the club can call Helen Jones on 4981 3540.”

The Club plays three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Elizabeth Waring Function Room in Nelson Bay.

“Bridge is a great way to keep the brain active and is a great opportunity to socialise with others from the local community,” she said.

The event was voted a resounding success by all who attended.
