It’s time for a resurgence and the Scouts are calling on you to get involved.

There’s already a Scout Hall begging to be used, and youth putting their hand up wanting to be involved, so there’s nothing stopping this fantastic movement in regaining the popularity they once had in our beautiful area.

A public meeting has been called on Tuesday 13 March at 5:30pm in the Hawks Nest Scout Hall on Yamba Street to discuss the options for re-commencing the Scout Group in Hawks Nest.

Stan Woodrow, District Commissioner for Manning District Scouts, told News Of The Area, “We’ve got the hall, we’ve got interested youth, we just need volunteers interested in having as much fun as the kids will.”

“Come and meet the District Commissioner and Assistant District Commissioner, who will explain what Scouting has to offer, both youth, and adults, and what’s involved in becoming a leader.”

“It’s not just for the kids, Scouting is dynamic and fun.”

As a Leader, you will help to provide self-development to young people through challenging, adventurous, achievement-oriented, teamwork and leadership-based experiences. Scouting provides adults with an opportunity to lead and gain satisfaction working with young people and other adults; to make a direct positive impact on your local community and on the lives of young people.

Stan speaks highly of the suitability of the area for scouting, telling News Of The Area, “The Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest location is ideal for Scouting as there is an abundance of suitable facilities.”

“Plenty of waterways for kayaking and canoeing, as well as venues that are ideal for hiking, camping and bushwalking, and there are even caves that are suitable for caving, and great rock walls for abseiling, that are not too far distant.’

“The Myall River is a magic canoe paddle from Bulahdelah down to Mungo Brush, or perhaps building a raft and rafting down the river – already have Scout Groups come up from the Sydney area because of our facilities, yet we don’t utilise them enough ourselves,” he said.

“Being located just a short drive to Bulahdelah where we have a very tidy but small Scout Group, it is ideal for intergroup activities,” he added.

Scouts is a world wide organisation for youth aged from 6 to 26 years. It teaches social and leadership skills through challenge and outdoor adventure.

The program follows the school calendar year, with activities held on weekends and during school holidays.
