Col Amos and Kerry Faber win Inaugural Patron’s Mixed Pairs at Tea Gardens Sport by NOTA - December 9, 2015 The big news this week was of course the inaugural Patron’s Mixed Pairs competition, hosted by the Club Patron, John Younghusband. John Younghusband (centre) with the winners of the Inaugural Patron’s Mixed Pairs competition Col Amos and Kerry Faber. A field of 18 teams participated, (36 players), competing for a total prizemoney of $700.00. The format comprised 3 games of 12 ends of three-bowl pairs. Patron, John Younghusband must have been very satisfied with tournament which attracted a strong field of Club bowlers. Mixed triples are often seen as grounds for divorce, but not on this occasion as some had already discarded their “better-halves” to play with different partners whilst other retained their composure for fear of retribution down the track. Much depended on the luck of the draw of the cards and the ability to adapt to the varied playing conditions as both the grass green, running with a bit of inconsistency, and the synthetic were in use with all teams swapping over after each game. Prizemoney was distributed for each of the individual game winners and of course for teams overall performance over the three games. The major prize winners were: First; Kerry Faber and Col Amos. Second; Bev Rhodes and Sean Mearrick. Third; Roby Webster and Ron Webster. The Kerry and Col team was the only team to win all their games whilst Tom Parkinson and Verlie Gray must have felt disappointed drawing all three. In other matches during the week; In Wednesday Nominated Triples, Col Amos was again in the winner’s circle, winning the day with Doug Naylor and David Rimmer on a healthy +37 whilst the team of Peter Jones, Jim Anderson,(Gosford BC), and John Parkinson took second money with +32. In Friday Jackpot Pairs the winners with the highest margin were Frank Zumbo and Doug Naylor on +19, followed by Neil Kibble and David Rimmer on +13. Both Jackpots were not won. Friday Jackpot bowlers should note that both jackpots will be won next Friday 11th December as draws will be made of the winning cards until both winners can be found. Thirty bowlers participated in the Sunday Introduction to Bowls Programme today 6th December.. The winners were; Lyn Nightingale(new bowler),Clare Brown and John McJannett Lucky Losers were; Tim Grant, David Stamp, (visitor from Turramurra BC) and Bill Thrift. There was no coach today but the ever- faithful Barry Goode did the honours with the cooking. Thank you Barry! Sunday bowls will finish this year next week and will resume on 17th January 2016.
