COFFS Quilters and Needlecraft Inc. (CH&N) has rallied funds and sent $1,000 to donation organisation GIVIT, with the stipulation it is to be used for the people of Lismore. “This money was an accumulation of funds from our quilt show held in 2018 and raffles run at our various events,” CH&N spokesperson Shirley Rose told News Of The Area. Most libraries are drop-off points for squares. CH&N also recently donated four quilts each to the Women’s Refuge and the Wesley Mission in Coffs Harbour. “Members enjoy making quilts and are happy to share the products of their skills with those in our community who need the comfort a quilt can offer.” Recently the club was approached by WIRES asking them to make pouches for joeys who are in care after the floods. “They have made 40 pouches and 40 liners and now will make pouches for the smaller joeys.” The CH&N group meets 8.30 to 12 noon every Thursday at Cavanbah Hall in Coffs and welcomes new members any time. Members undertake a wide and varied range of handicraft such as quilting, patchwork, tapestry, knitting, crocheting as well as many types of hand embroidery. “The club has a large library for all crafts, and we also have sewing machines, irons etc for all types of sewing requirements.” These are available to members and can enable them to participate in workshops that are run by members for members to learn different crafts.
