COFFS Harbour’s best junior Oztag players have taken on the state’s finest during the 2021 NSW State Cup in Coffs Harbour. The Coffs Harbour junior representative teams took on regions from across the state over four huge days of top-class Oztag at the Ce.x Coffs International Stadium and surrounding fields. Eight Coffs Harbour Cavaliers teams took part in the annual event which showcases the best 12- to 17-year-old players in NSW. A number of Coffs Harbour teams made deep runs in the NSW State Championships, making the knockout final stages of their respective competitions. The Cavaliers 13’s boys team made a deep run to make the semi-finals of their division after topping their pool group. The Cavaliers boys almost made the grand final going down 6-5 in their semi-final to finish third in their division. The 16’s girls were also semi-finalists in Coffs Harbour, while the 13’s girls’ team also made a deep run at the NSW State Cup with a quarter final finish. The 15’s boys were another Cavaliers team to make the quarter finals and were knocked out 4-1 by the top ranked team in their division. Competing for the first time in Division 1, the Cavaliers 17’s girls made the quarter finals and were also knocked out by the top ranked team. And the 17’s boys were one of six Cavaliers teams to make the quarter finals of the NSW State Championships. After four days of facing top-class Oztag opposition, Coffs Junior Oztag coordinator Mel Cowgill had no doubt what the highlight was of her time at the NSW State Cup. “Definitely watching all of our kids grow and move forward from one year to the next,” she said. “The improvement seen over the weekend and the determination is very impressive! “I am very proud of them all and it was an awesome weekend of Oztag.” By Aiden BURGESS
