COFFS Harbour Surf Life Saving Club (CHSLSC), a community organisation run by volunteers, purchased new life saving equipment to protect members of the public who surf and swim at the beach.

A new sponsorship from the C.ex Group through their ClubGRANTS Program means the club has been able to purchase and maintain much needed lifesaving equipment and provide up-to-date training for all volunteer members.

Coffs Harbour Surf Life Saving Club President Terry Maher explained the importance of the new equipment.

“Patrons at Park Beach are blessed to be able to enjoy the water while being watched over by our
exceptional, volunteer patrol members.

“A part of our puzzle is that we need to have life-saving equipment like all-terrain vehicles, inflatable
rescue boats, patrol shelter and oxygen equipment.

“These things aren’t cheap, and they also need to be maintained.

“Not only that, we invest a lot into our volunteer education and training to upskill our members to ensure our beaches are as safe as they can be.

“So, we are extremely grateful for our new Platinum sponsor, the C.ex Group who have contributed $20,000 in much needed and very much appreciated funding to the Club.”

CHSLSC identified five roles for volunteer surf lifesavers this summer.

“Identify the safest part of the beach to position the red and yellow flags, patrol the flagged area and monitor the beach conditions, conduct preventative actions and rescue people in distress, provide modified first aid and assistance to people in trouble on the beach and in the water, work with other emergency services to assist with incident response away from patrolled locations or outside patrol hours.”
