GP TRAINING provider GP Synergy has recognised Mandy Harrison of Coffs Medical Centre as the GP Synergy Practice Manager of the Year for the North Coast training region.

Feeling immense gratitude for the award, Ms Harrison cites the team at Coffs Medical Centre and their loyal patients as the best part of being a practice manager.

“I’ve been a practice manager for more than 25 years, and some of the relationships that I have forged with GP registrars who trained in the practice are still current today,” Ms Harrison said.

“Areas like ours receive such an enormous boost to the workforce with the young GPs in training.

“I love watching them learn and grow and explore a rural area; and always smile when the majority end up thinking this country stuff is okay!

“It helps to have a team of GP supervisors that are super keen to teach and nurturing them gives us the best recruitment tool for any practice.

“We are fortunate to have a training program that services rural areas.”

Mrs Georgina van de Water, CEO of local general practice education and training provider GP Synergy, said the training of GP registrars relies heavily on accredited general practices.

“GP Synergy is delighted to be able to present the annual Practice Manager of the Year award for the North Coast to Ms Harrison in recognition of her commitment to excellence in general practice education and training,” Mrs van de Water said.

“GP registrars make a significant contribution to primary health care provision in local communities, undertaking more than 213,000 consultations across the North Coast in the first half of this year alone.

“There are more than 180 general practices in the North Coast training region accredited for GP training.

“Practice managers are integral to practices maintaining their training accreditation and in supporting the training of GP registrars.

“It’s practice managers that help registrars navigate the behind-the-scenes workings of general practice and support their placement and training within the practice, often helping them settle into a new community.”
