MID North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) began providing COVID-19 vaccinations to its staff at the Coffs Harbour Health Campus on Wednesday, 17 March 2021, and was the first NSW regional site to begin the program.

The first person to receive the jab was Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) of the COVID-19 Vaccination Hub, Clare Scullion, who was previously the NUM of the COVID-19 testing clinic.

She said it was important for everyone able to be vaccinated to do so, in order to protect each other from COVID-19, and is looking forward to giving others the jab.

“I was excited to roll up my sleeve this morning and play my part in helping to protect our community, and I would encourage everyone to do the same,” she said.

“My brother and cousins in Ireland have had COVID-19 so I know firsthand how it can impact families and local communities.

“Mum and Dad back home have already had their first dose of the vaccine so it’s wonderful that we now have the opportunity to do the same.”

The rollout is for phase 1a which covers healthcare workers who work in areas such as emergency departments, intensive care units and our COVID-19 testing clinics, and the selected staff at the hospital are able to book a specific time to receive the shot.

Mid North Coast Local Health District Chief Executive Stewart Dowrick said opening the vaccination hub was an exciting time for staff and the broader community.

“The Coffs Harbour Vaccination Hub is an important milestone for our district and NSW as we continue to rally against COVID-19,” he said.

“Our staff across the district are being encouraged to get vaccinated as an additional measure for keeping themselves and our local communities safe from COVID-19.”

The AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine will be given in two doses.
