THE Coffs Harbour Comets went down 26-4 to the Macksville Sea Eagles last Sunday at Geoff King Motors Oval.

The unbeaten Sea Eagles put in another stellar performance in the torrential rain to remain top of the Tooheys New Group 2 Rugby League ladder after four matches.

Comets coach Brandon Costin acknowledged the quality of the competition leaders.

“Macksville completely outplayed us, they were too energetic and enthusiastic.

“They have some really talented players, their go forward in the middle is second to none and they have a great kicking game.

“We will need to work on our ability to absorb pressure and in turn how to apply pressure to opposition sides,
we have won one game from four and as a side I know we are better than what we are producing,” said Brandon.

Comets left winger Billy Griffiths took solace in having more time to build on the side’s structure.

“We are in the process of building our structure, it takes time to create the combinations to win a premiership.

“The comp isn’t won in the first few weeks, all the teams this year are very competitive, each week is going to be a tough game from now until the final game of the season,” said Billy.

The Comets are now preparing for their next match against Bellingen on Sunday 16 May at Geoff King Motors Oval as assistant coach Miles Fairbank explained.

“Was a tough day at the office, we tried probably too hard to make things happen, the effort was there but we just lost our way in attack, so we will be working on that at training.

“We face Bellingen next week, they have been travelling pretty well so we need to fix up to be in with a chance,” said Miles.
