Friendly advice from local tech-savvy youths is now on hand for seniors through free One-on-One Tech Savvy Senior Sessions being offered at all three Coffs Harbour Libraries.

The sessions are being funded through the State Library, and connect tech-savvy teens from Youngster.co with technically challenged, older community members.

Bridging the gap between generations, the sessions not only empower elders to use technology better but also provide job opportunities and experience for young people in the area.

Youngsters are smart, local people who know about current technology and are happy to have a chat with seniors.

“I’m delighted to see an initiative that allows our young people to be employed doing something they enjoy while helping our older community members to become more technologically self-sufficient,” Coffs Harbour Mayor Cr Denise Knight said.

“As we’ve all become more reliant on technology for daily tasks and connecting with our friends and families, especially during the pandemic it is important that we all have easy access to technological support and guidance.”

Over twenty minutes, seniors have the opportunity to have any specific questions answered to get the most out of their digital devices including computers, tablets and smartphones.

It is hoped the service will enable seniors to better access everyday technology to use important services, conduct personal business and socialise.

The twenty-minute sessions will run from 10am to 12 noon at Toormina Library on Friday 29 January, Woolgoolga Library on Wednesday 27 January, and Coffs Harbour Library on Monday 25 January and 1 February.

Bookings are essential for the sessions, and can be made online at www.libraries.coffsharbour.nsw.gov.au or by phoning Coffs Harbour Libraries on 6648 4900.
