Social connection was the key focus for this year’s week. With that in mind, TacMed Australia which has its warehouse on Isles Drive, sizzled up sausages and onions and invited as many veterans as they could to come along. “The theme this year is social connection and despite us being in the area for six years, we don’t know a lot of veterans. “So in line with the theme of connection we just wanted to try and connect with other veterans and thought while we’re at it let’s have a barbecue. “There’s no more Australian way to do it,” managing director Jeremy Holder said. About 60 per cent of TacMed Australia staff are veterans and the company is an emergency medical supply and training company which provides the highest standard of emergency medical training and equipment to first responders. Mr Holder said the barbecue was a success on more than just the social front. “We made it a gold coin donation and we donated it all to the Commando Welfare Trust,” he said. “Myself and the two other shareholders at TacMed, we all served with the Commandos so it’s near and dear to our heart, it’s a grass roots trust which goes to either badly injured guys or K.I.A’s families. “Anything from maybe one of the widows who’s struggling to make a mortgage payment or for school fees, the unit’s welfare through the Commando Trust will just pay for that.” By Brad GREENSHIELDS
