AFTER 30 years as a TAFE teacher, Carolyn Fletcher started her training business in a small office in Coffs Harbour, nine years ago, with a colleague.

Her International Teacher Training Academy (Australia) (ITTA) now employs twelve people and delivers face-to-face and online training across Australia.

ITTA has trainers in Toowoomba, Cowra, Newcastle, Townsville, Brisbane, Katherine, and of course, in Coffs Harbour.

Ms Fletcher said it was a lot of hard work to register as a national training organisation, particularly to be authorised to deliver the Certificate IV and Diploma in training and assessment.

ITTA also offers the Diploma in leadership and management face-to-face as well as two online courses, ‘Engaging the 21st Century Learner’ and ‘Teaching for tomorrow’, for schools and TAFE teachers.

One of their trainers, Chris Dixon is based in Katherine, in the Northern Territory.

He visited Nhulunbuy, East Arnhem, Northern Territory, a remote area near the Gulkula Mining Company’s bauxite mine, which opened in 2017 and is the first Indigenous-owned and operated bauxite mine in the world.

Profits from the mine go towards training and education for local Indigenous people.

The mine manager contacted Mr Dixon and he now does a return Katherine-Darwin- Nhulunbuy trip each month and stays for a week to deliver training in the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to the Gulkula Mining Company employees.

ITTA will soon be offering a new face-to-face Certificate IV in training and assessment course over two full days each month, for nine months, with some government-funded places still available.
