Coffs Coast Tigers down cross-town rivals Boambee Bombers in CPL clash

Eighteen-year-old Lex Weiley had a clean sheet in the Coffs Coast Tigers 3-0 win over Boambee.

COFFS Coast Tigers defeated cross-town rivals Boambee Bombers 3-0 in the Coastal Premier League (CPL) last Saturday at the Coffs Football Centre Synthetics.

Goals from Ethan Sechi, Jacob Field, Marcus Field and a clean sheet from eighteen-year-old shot stopper Lex Weiley sealed the three points for the Tigers and consolidated their position in second place.

It was Weiley’s second appearance in first grade as he continued his learning curve between the posts.

“It was good, I had a few nerves before kick-off but after a few touches, they all went away,” he said.

“It was a great experience and always will be playing in first grade and it’s a big part for me in learning to get better.

“Fortunately we were able to keep them (Boambee) out and limit their opportunities to a handful.”

The Northern Storm had the wind taken from their sails, losing 7-0 to a clinical Port United team who took control of the second half scoring six goals.

At Toormina Oval, Sawtell FC salvaged a point scoring a ninetieth minute equaliser for a 1-1 draw with Port Saints.
Coffs City United Lions maintained their 100 percent winning record with a 5-2 victory on the road against Macleay Valley Rangers.

Round 14 consolidated Coffs City United’s and the Coffs Coast Tigers’ positions at the top, while the race for third and fourth place intensified, with several teams still in contention.

Bellingen retained third place with a pack of southern based teams in Port United, Kempsey Saints, Southern United and Port Saints breathing down their necks.

On Saturday 9 July Coffs City United will face cross town rivals Northern Storm kicking off at 3 pm at Mclean Street.

Sawtell FC play Boambee at Toormina Oval at the same time and Coffs Coast Tigers face Port Saints at 5pm at the Coffs Football Centre Synthetics.
