1. I like most Australians are sceptical of all politicians, party based and Independent alike and would like to know just who their major backers are. We mostly know who the major backers of the left and right-wing parties in Australia are, business and the trade unions and have done for a long time, but Independents are a different and much newer thing. With the major parties on the nose with voters Independents are surging and mostly on the back of dissatisfaction with the majors and the independents’ role of holding the two major parties to account rather than their ability to deliver real benefits to individual voters. That being said voters need to be assured that Independents really are independent and not beholden to some nebulous backer. I would assume that if Independents are having their strings pulled by the rich and powerful or some organisation or institution with self-interest the major parties with their multimillion dollar budgets would have the resources to find out which if any Independents are really attempting to enter parliament to push the barrows of unseen sponsors and expose them. I will assume if they don’t do this before the election the independent candidates really are just that, independent and honestly chasing a seat in parliament to represent the mums, dads and children of their electorates, and wouldn’t that be nice for a change.
