THE inaugural Coffs Coast Festival of Motor Sport was launched last Thursday as Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh hailed the region as “the motorsport capital of New South Wales”. The exciting addition to the Coffs Coast calendar will see a range of motorsport events staged at venues from Grafton to Kempsey and the Festival will run from 13 to 28 November. Event President Bob Carle said, “There has been a huge amount of interest in the Festival. “We have received great support from Gurmesh and the NSW Government, Coffs Harbour City Council, and our major sponsors CeX Group and Geoff King Motors.” Bob Carle said the Festival emerged out of an idea to replace the void from the World Rally Championship. “This year’s event has been timed to coincide with the final of the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship (incorporating the Australian and NSW Rally Championship) which is one of the biggest rally events to be held in Australia this year, and will be run on 27-28 November. “This will provide a great finale to the Festival,” said Bob. The Festival will kick off with a Motor Show featuring special car, motor bike and hot rod displays. Over three weekends the Festival will offer something for every motor sport enthusiast – rally, hill climbs, go karting, off road racing, speedway, dirt track bikes, remote control racing, a burnout competition, rally cross and more. Bob Carle said the Festival is designed to be family friendly, and events have been scheduled across three weekends to allow visitors plenty of time to enjoy everything the beautiful Coast has to offer, while also having plenty of appeal for locals.
