COFFS CALLIGRAPHERS return for their first workshop in 2022 on Saturday, 12 February with a fun class on the ‘Zentangle Method’. Zentangles have been described as a form of meditative doodling that has patterns (tangles) using dots, lines, and curves to produce mindful art. Advertise with News of The Area today. For calligraphers, it is a way of engaging in pen work while creating the repeating patterns, lines, curves, and dots, in a free flowing yet structured way. “It loosens up both the hand and the mind,” Isabella Brandli, speaking on behalf of the Coffs Calligraphers, told News Of The Area. Coffs Calligraphers was formed in 1986 to foster and promote the art of calligraphy on the Mid-North Coast, meeting on the second Saturday of each month at the Coffs Harbour Showground Gallery. Group members, whether beginners or more seasoned students on their calligraphic journey, through a combination of external tutors, workshops, and in-house tutors are challenged to learn and improve their art. Calligraphy, as practised by the Coffs Calligraphers, is much more than pen to paper. “It’s writing on leaves, rocks, umbrellas, clothing, and bodies, as well as making books and papers,” said Isabella. Now under the umbrella of the Coffs Harbour Creative Arts Group as one of their interest groups, along with Printmaking and Porcelain Painting, Coffs Calligraphers continue to gain membership, share skills and ideas, and enjoy honing their craft. New members are always welcome. For more information, go to the Coffs Calligraphers Facebook page, the Coffs Harbour Creative Arts Group website, or phone Sharon on 0414 757 248. The next Coffs Harbour Creative Arts Group members’ exhibition, Landscapes & Seascapes, begins at 2pm, Sunday 6 February, running until 23 March.
