IN an effort to develop and strengthen the relationship between local police and community members, Port Stephens Local Area Command officers this week hosted ‘Coffee with a Cop’.

Held at Raymond Terrace MarketPlace, officers from Port Stephens, covering all ranks and duties, were on hand to talk to members of the public, about issues important to them.

Cafes within the MarketPlace, Wendy’s, Donut King and Fibonacci Coffee, participated in the event, with officers giving out cards for free coffee at these stores to anyone who stopped for a chat.

Community member Alan Price told News Of The Area, “It was great to meet some faces from the local stations today.”

“We understand they have a very tough job, and chatting to people from around the area can help them to have a better knowledge of what is happening around the place.”

“I chatted to a highway patrol officer officer today about some road safety issues near my home and it feels good to have local officers who will listen,” he said.

Officers reported the event to be a success, and were pleased with the turnout.

A Port Stephens LAC Officer told News Of The Area, “It has been a really positive day for us, meeting people, having conversations with the community and taking down concerns where needed.”

“We are pleased with the number of people who came, and hope it has helped residents to see that we are here, and we are listening.”

“We certainly hope to hold more of these events in the future, and also encourage the community to still keep in touch with us as they need at any time,” he said.
