Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Michaela Kloeckner, president of Coastal Claymakers, told News Of The Area that the Coffs Harbour ceramics group has been very busy preparing for their second Empty Bowls event. “The Empty Bowls project originated in 1990 in Michigan, USA when a high school teacher and his students were searching for a way to raise funds to support a food drive. “It has since become an event worldwide and all funds raised are donated to a local charity,” Michaela said. “As a ceramics community we felt we could use our skills to draw attention to the fact that not everyone’s bowl in this world is filled and that we could make a small difference by staging this event to raise funds for a worthy cause.” At the beginning of the year Coastal Claymakers held an Empty Bowls painting workshop and under the guidance of ceramicist Michaela Kloeckner decorated bisque fired bowls in various ways. “There was joy and excitement as we added to our collection for the Empty Bowls event while learning new skills. “We will have up to 50 bowls made and donated by various potters ranging from Scotts Head to Woolgoolga, mostly made of stoneware clay which can be placed in the microwave oven, dishwasher and conventional oven,” said Michaela. “Many are intricately decorated, some have been embellished with gold lustre, while others reflect the personal touch of their maker. “Coastal Claymakers is offering a healthy lunch of mixed salads and crusty bread for a cost of $20 and bowls can be taken home by the purchaser, while funds raised will support Hope for the Homeless Inc., Coffs Harbour.” The Empty Bowls event will be held on Sunday 22 of November 2020, from 11am to 1 pm at the Coramba Community Hall, 4 Dorrigo St., Coramba to coincide with the Coramba markets.
