IT’S about to be Club Championship season at the Coffs Harbour Golf Club.

The battles to find the best Ladies and Men’s player at the club will begin in earnest on Wednesday when the Ladies Club Championship tees off.

Three days later it will be the start of the Men’s Club Championship.

With the greens at the club in excellent condition after the 72nd Annual Balter Festival of Golf which wrapped up on the weekend, the course is sure to provide a stern test that will certainly separate the wheat from the chaff.

Coffs Harbour Golf Club head professional said there’s a few contenders in both championships that could win the prize.

“I think the likes of Keryn Little could win in the Ladies but so could Kristy Hickey who’s come back from retirement and finished third in the Ladies Classic,” Allan said.

“Ada Lynch is another one who’s always there or thereabouts each year.”

In the men’s club championship Allan believes the defending champion is going to be hard to beat.

“Billy Flanagan is going to start his PGA Traineeship on January 1 so it’s his last chance and I believe he’s keen to go out a winner,” he said.

The club pro warned against thinking the men’s event is a one-horse race though.

“I think David Rook is a chance. He had a bad experience in the North Coast Amateur but I think he bounces back, he’s always a bounce back man,” he said.

“And Dan Swain is another one who you can never discount and Aden Louez is always a dark horse contender.”
