CLANS on the Coast has it all.

From chieftains and bagpipes, to sword dancing and strongmen.

For those that want to get right into the swing of things the Ceilidh will be held at Nelson Bay Bowling Club on 16 September from 6.30pm where guests will enjoy seeing the chieftain being piped in, pipe band playing, highland dancing and of course the haggis will be piped in with much ceremony, including the address to the haggis by Scott Morrison.

There will be a Traditional Scottish Wedding on the Day with local Phil Greentree performing as the Bard.

Clans on the Coast does so much more than celebrate the heritage of Scotland, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Cornwall, Wales, Brittany and Glaicia.

It supports local charities.

Founder of the festival Ron Swan OAM told News Of The Area, “We always do fundraising that supports a cancer appeal and research.”

“We are still seeking helpers for on the day, setting up on the Friday and pulling down on the Saturday and to assist during the event,” he said.

The gates open 8.30am with the event kicking off with the massed band parade at 9.30am.

In addition to the usual strong man events like tossing the caber and hammer throwing there will be some archery for the kids being introduced by the Medieval Fighters this year.

The Clans on the Coast committee encourages everyone whether they have clans in their heritage or not to come along and experience the event which is being held at the AFL Dick Burwell Field Nelson Bay Road, 16 September and is a highlight on the Port Stephens event calendar.
