Karuah local, and Worimi man, Chris Feeney, will be performing at the 2015 Saltwater Freshwater Festival on Australia Day.

The annual Saltwater Freshwater Festival held from 9am to 5pm on January 26 at Coffs Harbour Botanic Gardens will be a day of indigenous dance, story, crafts, language, art and ceremony.

In preparation for the festival, Chris attended the Saltwater Freshwater dance and cultural camp.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn the specially choreographed ‘(Our) Flash Mob’ dance and connect with local and regional Aboriginal dancers, performers, artists and elders.

“Dance camp was great, it was fun to meet new people and be part of all the Aboriginal team getting together, getting into culture and performing it for others and community.  I’m really looking forward to the festival; to meeting my mob, getting to know others and participating in culture together,” Chris said.

Saltwater Freshwater Festival coordinator, Kristen Collier, said organisers would love to welcome Myall Coast residents along to the festival.

“Support the Worimi artists and performers from your region taking part in the day,” she said.

“Worimi culture will be represented by the wonderful weaving women from Karuah who will be teaching weaving in one of the Festival’s many workshops.

“Alongside Chris in the ‘(Our) Flash Mob’ dance performance will be other young dancers from Karuah, Tea Gardens, Bulahdelah and Dungog.”
