THE public will be the big winners following the merger between the Nelson Bay Chemmart pharmacy and the giant Terry White group.

The amalgamation was announced earlier this month, creating a network of about 500 stores and an estimated turnover of $2 billion.

For Port Stephens shoppers, the merger is expected to provide more buying power and cheaper prices at the checkout, says pharmacy part owner Sue Milne.

“With more buying power we are hoping to pass on those savings to customers,” Mrs Milne said.

“Traditionally the Chemmart brand has had a strong focus on the health aspect of the pharmaceutical industry, while Terry White is big on beauty.

“The merger will mean we can now provide expert advice and service in addition to a range of products in both these areas.”

Mrs Milne said that aside from the branding, little else will change – the pharmacy will retain its staff of 20-plus employees and opening hours.

The Nelson Bay pharmacy has built a strong reputation in areas such as DNA testing, flu vaccinations, script reminders, medical devices and medical certificates, sleep apnea, prescription storage and free home delivery across the Tomaree peninsula.

“We have also been running a successful consultancy-based weight loss program,” Mrs Milne said.

“Developed in collaboration with the CSIRO, Impromy combines meal replacements with personalised support for results that have been clinically tested.”

Mrs Milne said, “The program includes a Simply Well recipe book, which incorporates high protein recipes, regular health reviews and reports along with continued support.”

The merger was officially marked last Friday with the cutting of a ribbon by Tomaree Chamber president Ryan Palmer and a giant cake.
