A NUMBER of residents and businesses along Tea Gardens’ Marine Drive have asked MidCoast to consider implementing two changes to traffic conditions to the newly upgraded roadway.

Gordon Grainger from the Southern Area Reference group said, “There are concerns for safety issues, due to an increase in pedestrian traffic as well as an increase in parking, particularly along the commercial area between Ogden and Charles Streets.”

“They are calling on Council to consider a 40kph speed limit for the length of Marine Drive and a no parking area to allow an unloading area for delivery vehicles, often forced to double park when making deliveries.”

Mr Grainger said, “The suggested no parking zone would be in Maxwell Street outside Tea Gardens Real Estate and apply weekdays , during business hours.”

Mr Richard Wheatley, Senior Transport Engineer with Mid Coast Council has said he will take the request to the Traffic Committee but warned, ”Please note any decision will take time.”

The Southern Area Reference Group is a Council initiative to improve communication between Council and community.

It is chaired by Mr. Dan Aldridge, Manager Community Spaces, Recreation and Trades for Mid Coast Council and includes representatives from Chamber of Commerce, Progress and Winda Woppa Associations, North Arm Cove, Pindimar and the Myall River Action Group.

It is also attended by MidCoast Councillor Len Roberts.
