Sr Byrne also told News Of The Area hot cross buns are traditionally eaten on Good Friday, the day which commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. “It is this day that we remember the Cross, and it reminds us that Jesus died for us,” she said. Easter is an important Christian festival that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the foundation upon which the Christian faith is based. Sr Byrne said the celebration is about new life, new beginnings and hope. “The message is that we are invited at this time of year to remember what Jesus did for us, and shows us how to live our lives and how to treat others,” she said. “There is a memory of hope for us that things will be better, and a command to treat others with the same love that God has for us, to forgive, to be compassionate and look forward to the future of a better world for everyone.” No matter how you plan to celebrate Easter, it is hoped that you enjoy the special weekend and spare a thought for those who will be working as usual.
