Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au With the closing date for entries set at 5pm on Friday 25 March 2022 with works to be delivered by Sunday 10 April, the misty mountain Dorrigo air is full of creativity as works are being crafted for the big show. “This not-to-be-missed annual event is held in the Community Hall on Hickory Street, Dorrigo,” Lyn Skillings, Exhibition Convenor told News Of The Area. Founded in 1990, this flagship exhibition is held over ten days from 14-23 April, showcasing the amazing talent and creativity of artists living on the Dorrigo Plateau. “This year’s theme Parallels and Perspectives is a multi-faceted concept which could include life parallels, parallel universes, personal perspectives or perspectives in nature, and provides a framework for artists to channel their creativity,” Lyn said. “Painters, sculptors, workers in fibre art, people creating in acrylics, watercolour, oils, pastels, pencils and ink as well as combinations of all these things come together and present their work in a variety of sections for judging, the winning of prizes, commendations and for sale.” This year sees the inclusion of a new section on Sustainable Art, for works to be made from natural fibres, organic material or recyclables either 2D or 3D, which provides a challenge and stimulus for the artists. “This new section is running parallel with the ‘Back to Eden’ Film Festival being screened at the Old Gazette Theatre over the Easter weekend, focussing on sustainable lifestyles and farming practices,” said Lyn. Opening Night of the Dorrigo Easter Art Exhibition will take place on 13 April. “It’s always an enjoyable time with the judges’ decisions announced as well as a critique of the winning artworks, voting for People’s Choice, refreshments and music. “All welcome.” This exhibition relies on the community for its success. The organisers are calling for assistance in receiving exhibition entries, arranging and hanging artworks, taking down the exhibition, Opening Night and front desk presence.
