INSPIRATION was the focus of the Real Futures Foundations Careers Expo at Tomaree High School.

Twenty different industry groups were represented in the sessions which saw Year 10 students exposed to a range of career sectors, giving them the chance to explore options of interest.

Emergency Services, finance, construction and nursing were all among the potential industries showcased.

Victoria Pitt of Newcastle University, who spoke to students about studying nursing and midwifery, told News Of The Area, “It’s an exciting day, giving students exposure to different degrees and potentially changing their lives through undertaking future studies at university.”

The defence force created strong interest with the students.

The opportunity to study a degree with the defence force, and be paid while studying and getting qualified at the same time is a key benefit of signing up.

Those who join the forces also have a guaranteed job, and no HECS debt at the end of their chosen university degree course.

St George Bank representative David Hurley said, “Banking is more than what you can see at the branch, it is a fascinating career, with  opportunities for young people to further their education, build their self development and even have opportunities to travel.”

Tomaree High School Principal Susan Xenos told News Of The Area that the activity was being followed in the evening by an information session for parents and one on one interviews, to assist students in selecting electives.
