Bulahdelah Social Fishing Club take on Mungo Brush FEATURED Sport by NOTA - March 24, 2016 Bulahdelah Social Fishing Club members baited their rods and wet their lines at their monthly club competition held last weekend. Winner of the largest fish Paul Shultz with his 3.5kg Jewfish. With competitors taking up positions on the waters around the Mungo Brush area, the weekend competition had a decent turnout of anglers landing more than 85 fish between them. Rough water conditions proved to be challenging for the competitors with a south-easterly change bringing rough seas on Friday. The conditions eased by the end of the weekend with calmer conditions enjoyed on the water. A jewfish weighing in at 3.5kg landed by Paul Shultz took the title of the largest fish caught. The most unusual species category was claimed by Christopher Duncan who managed to land a saltwater hairtail. Despite an abundance of tailor caught during the competition, the number of fish hooked overall during the weekend was down on previous years. Fishing Club President Mr Darren Carrall said despite disappointment with the low numbers of catches, the club remained optimistic about future competitions. Christopher Duncan won the most unusual species category with his catch of a hairtail. “Although we had less fish caught this time around, generally after Easter and onwards with cooler conditions we always see a greater number of fish,” Mr Carrall said. “It becomes a more productive time for fishing competitions.” The post-competition weigh-in occurred at the Bulahdelah Bowling Club on Sunday with a competitor’s lunch. The Fishing Club’s next monthly competition will be held on the weekend of 1-3 April. By Daniel Sahyoun
