During the formalities, the three young local women, Ellie Gooch, Keahne Hurtado and Lauren Shultz, were introduced to the crowd and presented with their sashes by Showgirl Coordinator Di Stidoff and reigning Bulahdelah Showgirl Richelle Levey.
“The girls are all amazing role models for our rural community,” Richelle said.
The contestants are now looking forward to taking part in the rest of the competition which they said will be a great learning experience.
“It’s about representing our community, promoting our town and meeting some really inspiring people along the way,” Ellie said.
Following the judging across a range of areas including knowledge of rural issues, confidence and ambition, the winner will be announced at the Bulahdelah Show in November.
The Dinner Dance also provided the opportunity for the Show Society to announce their pledge of $1,000 to the upcoming ‘One for the Farmers’ community fundraising day.
“We want to help out the best that we can,” Show Society President Gary Gooch said.
“We hope to donate more at the community event and we will additionally give the proceeds from our chocolate cake raffle at the show.”
Another highlight of the evening was the lively fundraising auction, with generous bids bringing in over $2,700 which will be donated back to local organisations.
Speaking with News Of The Area, Gary said the Dinner Dance is held each year to acknowledge the dedication of their many volunteers.
“It’s about giving the people who volunteer and contribute to the show a relaxed social night together away from the demands of the show organisation,” he said.
“It’s also a way of showing our volunteers that their efforts are appreciated.”
Gary said more than 150 volunteers contribute to running the show each year.
