Fierce competition amongst the 28 teams over the next two days resulted in some top-class bowls being played. In near perfect conditions, three games of 15 ends were played on Saturday followed by two games on Sunday. At the end of the three-day match, Tea Gardens topped the scoreboard to win the King of the Mountain title. “I must thank my team who all played really well throughout the competition,” Tea Gardens captain Steve Pell said. Second and third places were claimed by teams from Wallacia and Karuah performed strongly to finish in fourth position. With many of the players staying in the area for the weekend, Bulahdelah Bowling Club President Al Robards said the competition also provided an opportunity for the clubs to socialise together. “It’s about having a great round of bowls with true sportsmen and enjoying everything we have to offer here in Bulahdelah,” he said. The King of the Mountain competition has been running since 1985 and continues to attract the best bowlers in region. “We really appreciate all the teams coming back each year,” Mr Robards told News Of The Area. “We thank our sponsors, Barry Bros Butchers and Domina Insurers, for helping to make the event possible.” Mr Robards said they are already looking forward to next year’s competition.
