Bulahdelah Football Clubs great round of soccer Sport by NOTA - February 11, 2015February 10, 2015 After a two week layoff due to field closures last Thursday saw teams converge on the Jack Ireland Sporting Complex for the final round of regular competition in the Bulahdelah FC 6aside Football League. Becky Hunter With only a handful of points separating teams one thru six it was game on as teams competed for coveted semi finals positions. The afternoon’s proceedings got underway on field one at 530 with Red Rockets FC up against Thunder FC. Trent Lamborn Going into the match with only 1 point separating either side from a possible Division A Semi finals birth, it was the Rockets who came away with the goods snatching a 3-1 victory, moving them into forth spot and awaiting the result between Le Worthless Peons and Robyn’s Renegades. The 630 matches kicked off on field one with 3rd placed Smith’s Lake Bottle-O easily accounting for cellar dwellers Manchesthair United 10-1 and therefore cementing a top 4 finish. Field two saw Nearly Dead Desperate wrap up a 5-2 win over The Blue Marlins and thus putting the Marlins out of the semi finals playoffs, instead having to settle for the wooden spoon playoff against manchesthair United, whilst Nearly Dead & Desperate will live on in the Division B finals series. The game of the evening was easily the 730 match up between unbeaten Le Worthless Peons and 4th placed Robyn’s Renegades. Brad Johnson After the earlier result between the Rockets and Thunder FC went against them, Robyn’s Renegades where staring down the barrel of missing out on the Division A playoffs unless they could over come the Peons. Playing possibly their best half of football in the competition to date Robyn’s jumped out to a 2-0 lead taking it to the break. The 2nd stanza saw the competition front runners the peons show their metal as they pressed hard trying to gain the ascendency and it wasn’t long before something had to give with le Peons hitting back with a goal of their own. The night wasn’t to be the Peons though as Robyn’s Renegades defended their lead and thus handing the competition front runners their first defeat of the season. Final score Robyn’s 2, Peons 1. In the other 730 match the reigning champions the Dark Horses continued on their winning ways defeating Barely Legal 12-0 cementing 2nd position after a shaky start to their title defence. The semi finals kick off this week and its anyone’s guess how this competition is going to play out.
