A MOTHER’S Day visit to Great Lakes Aged Care last week, was the first of many ‘acts of kindness’ planned by Year 12 students at Bulahdelah Central School.

Armed with flowers and gifts, the young people spent the morning chatting with the residents and said they found it a very rewarding experience.

“It was nice meeting the ladies and speaking with them about their lives, they had many interesting stories to share,” Year 12 student Shae Finch said.

“They wanted to know about us as well, and they were very appreciative of our visit.”

Fellow student Leah Slockee, said she plans to keep in regular contact with the residents she met.

“By simply having a chat, you could see from the smile on their faces how much they enjoyed it,” Leah said.

“Some of them said they don’t get a lot of visitors, so being able to spend time with them made us feel good as well.”

BCS Year 12 Advisor, Ms Wendy Parsons, said “the students are a very compassionate group of young people.”

“They are quickly discovering that a small amount of their time can make a huge difference to others,” Ms Parsons told News Of The Area.

The Year 12 students are planning to continue their ‘random acts of kindness’ during their final two terms of school.

“We want to show the sense of contributing to the community that volunteering brings,” Ms Parsons said.

“I hope once Year 12 finish school, they will remember these experiences and continue to give their time to help out in their communities.”

The BCS Year 12 students come from all parts of the Myall Coast region including Karuah and Girvan, Hawks Nest and Tarbuck Bay, and everywhere in between.
