“It is a great feeling knowing that university is going to be a part of my future,” Tom said.
“It’s a huge weight off my shoulders and relieves the pressure of sitting the exams.”
The pair from Bulahdelah Central School received their early admission offers from the University of Wollongong last week.
Tom said he now has several options to consider after being accepted into two degrees; a Bachelor of Psychological Science and a combined Bachelor of Psychological Science/Bachelor of Commerce.
“I hope it will lead to human resource work or a job that helps people like counselling,” he said.
“Being able to interpret what the brain thinks also works in with market research and advertising.”
Emma said she is “very excited” to have been accepted into a Bachelor of Business and hopes her university studies will lead to a career in accounting.
BCS Careers Advisor, Ms Linda Drenkhahn, said the early offers are based on academic performance, attendance, aptitude for study and the ability to work independently.
“It’s generally based on the school’s belief in the student’s potential to succeed in the course they have chosen,” she said.
“The university has additional selection criteria including an interview and ranking system.”
For now, Tom and Emma have their attention firmly focused on their HSC exams.
“University study has been a long-term goal and I am thrilled to be accepted,” Emma said.
“Having an offer does relieve the pressure, but I still feel it is important to study hard and give the exams my all.”
Ms Drenkhahn said BCS students have applied for early entry to several other universities and hopes offers will “flood in” over the next few months.
The main round of university offers will be made in January.
