Term one captains Polly Sullivan and Maddi Tassell, said being in the position will help them learn about leadership. “It’s a very big responsibility and I am looking forward to being a voice for the student body to the teachers,” Maddi said. “The position will also help improve our self-confidence by being a role model for others and demonstrating the school values,” Polly told News Of The Area. The captains have already begun their duties by chairing weekly assemblies, monitoring boundaries in the playground and taking part in the Student Representative Council. The leaders will also represent the school at community events throughout the year. Assistant Principal Mr Rod Pye said the selection process involved writing an application, a formal interview with a panel of teachers and making a public speech. “We then had an election where staff and students from kindergarten to Year 6 voted,” he said. “The final result was a combination of what the student body thought and the work the nominees had done.” Ruby Roberts and Kurtis Barry will take the lead in term two, Maggie Cunich and Amia Murphy in term three with Charlise Luxon and Oliver Gibbs in term four. Grace Kiehne and Toby Barry will also assist with the leadership duties throughout the year. Mr Pye said the captains were looking forward to the challenges their new position will bring.
