Travellers love that Bulahdelah is now an RV Friendly town Bulahdelah, Wootton, Nerong FEATURED by NOTA - December 9, 2015December 9, 2015 The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA) announced on 24 November that four new RV Friendlies have just been approved in WA and NSW and one of them is Bulahdelah. Valerie and Tony Burge In order to qualify for the program, towns must successfully meet the needs of RV travellers and satisfy stringent criteria including, access to a general shopping area, provision of appropriate low cost overnight parking and also access to portable water and a free dump point. The CMCA reports on their website about the riverside town of Bulahdelah, which is found on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, where RV’s are welcome to stay at the Lions Park on the Pacific Highway for up to 72 hours. It is a great achievement that Bulahdelah has received this award, considering the amount of work that the Bulahdelah Lions Club, working together with the Great Lakes Council, have completed to make this a place where many people travelling along the Pacific Highway feel comfortable to stop. The Lions Park is well equipped with two undercover picnic tables, two BBQ plates, a water refill station, a sign pointing out public amenities only 160m away and information about a dump point at the Bulahdelah Showgrounds. The Lions Park is often full to capacity and is put to good use in the holiday season and this generates income for the local businesses. Myall Coast News approached Tony and Valerie Burge at Lions Park who were using the facilities and they commented on the excellent food from the bakery and the beautiful location. Arthur Baker, President of the Bulahdelah Lions Club commented, “The Lions Park was a Bulahdelah Lions Club initiative and has been four years in the making. “It is great that it has been awarded a RV Friendly Town but there is still more money needed to continue to build and maintain the park,” said Mr Baker. “Donation boxes have been set up at the park and a trust account has been established so that money raised can go towards the management of the park,” he said. Great Lakes Council’s Tourism Coordinator, Ms Sharon Bultitude said, “Bulahdelah is transformed since the highway bypass and is a charming country village stopover for travellers by the beautiful Myall River.” “Now that Bulahdelah is declared RV friendly town, we hope to share all this with more visitors,” added Ms Bultitude. We have stayed at Buladelah a few times and find it a good free camp and we always make a donation- though I think lots of campers fail to. My only negative is that there needs to be a bit more organization with the sites. Some people take up more space than they need, park on angles so another be vehicle can’t fit in. Maybe the Lions Club need to mark out the spaces. Reply
