Last Thursday saw teams converge on the Jack Ireland Sporting Complex to resume competition in the 2014/15 Bulahdelah FC 6aside Football League after the Christmas/ New Years lay-off.

Coming back from a two week break and possibly a little too much “Christmas Cheer” several teams appeared sluggish while others picked up where they left off.

The first of the evenings matches kicked off on field 1 with Smith’s Lake Bottle-O still licking their wounds after suffering their only loss of the season prior to the break and were eager to make amends against an inconsistent Robyn’s Renegades.

From the whistle it was clear both sides knew how important this match could prove to be in any top four aspirations.

Smith’s Lake would strike first, against the run play, with Zac Allen threading a goal through the Renegades defence.

From there it appeared Smith’s Lake had “shut up shop” and eagerly defended their slender lead fending off anything that the Renegades threw at them.

Eventually something had to give though and the Renegades got their break with some great link up work which saw Tom Rietveld slot home the equiliser.

Final Score 1-1 MVP Jordan Guthrie.

In other results, at 630 on field 1 competition front runners Le Worthless Peons continued where they left off defeating a gallant Nearly Dead & Desperate side 8-0. MVP Liam Gleeson.

Field 2 saw Thunder FC easily account for Manchesthair United 10-0 moving them into 2nd position on the points table and are now placed as serious title contenders.

MVP “Shorty” Curnow. The 730 games got underway on field 1 with the reigning champions the Dark Horses tackling the high flying Red Rockets FC.

In a match that really could have gone either way it was the Dark Horses who jumped out to an early lead with a 2 goal buffer, largely helped by a rampant Jacob King who once again dished out a lesson in first class football, which despite a late revival from the Rockets was never bridged.

Final score Dark Horses 5, Red Rockets FC 3.

The result moving the defending champions back into the top four. MVP Mitch Aquilina.

Field 2 would see Barely Legal start the new year with their first win of the competition accounting for The Blue Marlins 6-2. MVP Jess Shultz.
