Dating back to the 17th century, ‘bridge’ is a game to test the brain.

But it also offers so much more.

“We have 105 active members and our membership is climbing thanks to the welcoming attitude at the Hawks Nest Club and our appreciation of the importance of the social aspects of the game,” Leslie Falla told News Of The Area.

“We meet on Mondays at 6pm and Fridays at 12 noon and roughly eight times a year we have our highly popular we hold our Sunday lunchtime session when members and their partners are treated to some great home-made cooking,” Leslie said.

Bridge is played worldwide but closer to home there are local congresses across the Bay and in Taree.

“This year we hosted a Port Teams Event in a three way competition against Tomaree and Tilligerry,” Leslie said.

“The theme was friendly yet competitive.”

Early in the New Year, Leslie will be holding lessons for beginners.

“Over the last 12 months our wonderful new Clubhouse, together with its welcoming atmosphere, has proved to be much appreciated by those wanting to learn or improve their game.”

“The format will again be as little whiteboard teaching as possible and as much actual card play as can be fitted in.”

“Lessons are always fun; always informal and very affordable,” Leslie added.

The Hawks Nest Bridge Club is located at 26 Yamba Street, Hawks Nest.
