ON the morning of Monday July 26 Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan, State MP for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh and Coffs Harbour City Council Deputy Mayor Cr George Cecato announced a $4,997,620 upgrade to Brelsford Park.

Described by many people as ‘the jewel in the crown’, the upgrade will be guided by the CBD masterplan.

Councillor Cecato said, “The process is obtaining funding, addressing the masterplan and then seeking public input to find out what the community wants.

“We want to enhance the natural beauty of the green outdoor space that will be welcoming to families and provide a great outdoor space for our city.”

While no detailed plans have been created as yet, it is anticipated that the park will include a small stage, an amphitheatre, two kiosks, picnic areas and a village green space, and facilitate activities such as the annual Christmas Carols.

The funding has come from the Federal and State Governments $500 million Bushfire Local Economic Recovery program, and a specific timeframe for the project has yet to be announced.

The program is also providing $452,460 to the Exploring Coffs Harbour digital marketing initiative aimed at increasing tourism in the Coffs Coast region.

Some of the digital enhancements will include digital trails and itineraries to showcase tourism products; augmented reality products; digital skill development for local businesses.

Federal Member for Cowper Pat Conaghan said of the two projects, “I am proud to see three levels of Government working together to enhance Coffs Harbour and stimulate the local economy in the current difficult circumstances.”
