THERE are many reasons children and young people may go to school without eating breakfast in the mornings.
Whether it be something as simple as time management, or something more complex like family financial struggles or a lack of access to an availability of nutritious food, it is of great concern.

Many experts believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that a nutritious breakfast aids children’s physical, mental and emotional development.

Breakfast breaks the overnight fasting period, replenishes your supply of glucose and provides other essential nutrients to keep your energy levels up throughout the day.
If breakfast is skipped, the result can be feeling lethargic and tired and lead to difficulty concentrating and behaviour difficulties in the school environment.

With these health facts in mind, Irrawang High School launched its Breakfast Club, which has now been running for five years.

The Breakfast club runs every Tuesday morning from 8 – 8.30am.

This invaluable program is coordinated by the Irrawang High School Chaplain Mrs Renee Allison, and assisted by a team of dedicated and valued volunteers from our community.

Irrawang high school representative, Luelle Fagan, told News Of The Area, “We are pleased that these students are able to have this important service provided to them.”

“A good breakfast is a great start for a day at school where students need their energy and concentration,”

“We are so grateful to Mrs Allison and her team of wonderful volunteers for making sure the Breakfast Club continues,” she said.

Students are provided with a hot breakfast which varies from week to week and includes a juice in the warmer months and Milo in winter.
Students in need of breakfast are more than welcome to simply attend the Breakfast Club on Tuesday mornings.

Any students, or families, requiring more information on this program are invited to contact the school during school hours.
