IN 2018, the last time the hallowed stage of the Bowraville Theatre was graced with burlesque, it was an absolute sell out. Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au “It’s a little bit country, it’s a little bit rock n roll and it’s a whole lot of interactive fun with drag, cabaret, comedy and burlesque at its finest,” Northern Rivers Burlesque Collective’s Sofonda Blackmen told News Of The Area. Three of the country’s big names in burlesque – Raine Ingmenn, Mama la Roux and Bettie Bandit – will travel to the Nambucca Valley to perform and the evening will also feature some local stars and emerging artists. “We are taking inspiration from the famous musical ‘The Best Little Whore House In Texas’ but with our own twist,” Sofonda added. One of the locals to feature at this event is Missibotti’s Sheila Bea Rite who was recently a runner-up in the Australian Amateur Performer Competition. Other local burlesque performers such as Jesse Spice and Sera Pax will feature on the night as well as a much anticipated come-back performance from Sheneda Blackman. “Burlesque is best described as a pantomime for grown ups, a little bit bawdy, a bit cheeky and a bit of skin to be seen but nothing vulgar,” said Safonda. It all happens on Saturday 18 March 2023 at the Bowraville Theatre with the show beginning at 7:00 pm and is a strictly an adults only 18-plus event. Tickets are $30 either by going to www.bowravilletheatre.com.au or by going directly to stickytickets. Some tickets may be available at the door on the night however organisers advise that tickets are likely to sell out online prior to the date of the performance. By Mick BIRTLES
