With a final sale price of an impressive $650,000, all proceeds of the sale will now go towards research at the Children’s Cancer Institute, aimed at finding a cure childhood cancer.

The Build for a Cure house was built and furnished in just 21 days with everything from the land, materials, furniture and finishes right down to the landscaping donated by a suite of corporate partners, community groups and individuals.

Executive Director of the Children’s Cancer Institute, Professor Michelle Haber AM, said she is excited about the outcome of the auction.

“The Build for a Cure initiative is in its fourth year and has raised over $2 million to date for The Children’s Cancer Institute. All of the money raised go towards research which will help us achieve our goal of curing every child with cancer,” Professor Haber said.

“Annually, 950 Australian children are diagnosed with cancer with nearly three losing their battle every week, so the funds raised will be used to help us get this number to zero,” she said.

Originally founded by two Fathers of children with cancer in 1976, Children’s Cancer Institute is the only independent medical research institute in Australia wholly dedicated to research into the causes, prevention and cure of childhood cancer.

Key build partners this year include the McCloy Group, who donated the 700m2 block of land, located in The Bower in Medowie, and McDonald Jones Homes who donated the house.

The property boasts a large open living area, gourmet kitchen, four immaculately finished bedrooms, two bathrooms, media room and outdoor alfresco entertaining area.

The successful bidder on this very special property was a Corlette resident Narelle and her family, who purchased the home as an investment property.

Narelle herself has battled breast cancer and works with special needs children, so the home that love built has certainly ended up in the right hands.
